Story

Founder and Executive Director
Established in the winter of 2015 as an artist collective,
Focus on Your Art (FOYA) began with a group of young, impassioned Black artists at the Interlochen Arts Academy. United by a desire to build community, they sought to connect their unique Black experiences and support each other through adversity.
At its heart, FOYA's core values stem from a fundamental belief: that nourishing our minds through art, learning, creativity, and curiosity equips us with essential tools to surmount any challenge. We are dedicated to uplifting Black life, firm in the belief that our stories and experiences hold the keys to our liberation.
FOYA's mission is to create live and digital programming that tells empowering stories and ignites curiosity in communities nationwide. Through music, we aim to educate our audiences about Black life, history, and culture, fostering understanding and connection across diverse landscapes.
